NSW: Council seeks injunction to stop tree removal
City of Sydney Council is seeking an injunction to stop the removal of the last remaining
mature trees from the inner-city Domain park.
The Botanic Gardens Trust began the removal of the 11 trees along Hospital Road --
including five Moreton Bay figs -- last week.
The Trust says the trees' removal is in the interest of public safety, and they'll
be replaced by 33 large new trees following soil improvement over the next few weeks.
But Sydney Lord Mayor CLOVER MOORE has told ABC radio that the council wants more time
to examine the environmental impact of the tree removal.
She says the council will lodge an injunction application in the Land and Environment
Court today.
