QLD: Tourist winched out of mountain canyon
An Indian tourist is recovering in a Brisbane hospital today after falling down a canyon
in the Gold Coast hinterland.
The Queensland Rescue Service said the 43-year-old woman was a member of a party walking
through the Warrie National Park near Springbrook late yesterday when she slipped on a
rock.
Rescue helicopter pilot PETER ROW says the woman was found lying about 60m from the
top of a narrow canyon.
Captain ROW says there was only a small clearing in the tree canopy and with darkness
setting rescue conditions were difficult.
The rescue service says the woman, whose name has not released, is in a comfortable
condition in Princess Alexandra Hospital.
