Vic: Victorians get another public holiday

MELBOURNE, Aug 31 AAP - Victorians will celebrate Australia Day two days late next year.

A government spokesman said a public holiday for the traditional January 26 commemoration
has been gazetted instead for Monday, January 28.

This was after the state government overturned a Kennett Liberal government policy
not to carry the holiday over when it fell on a weekend.

The spokesman said the move reversed a policy that was confusing and inconsistent with
arrangements in other states.
